USF Takes 14th In First Tournament of Year

TAMPA- The University of South Florida men's golf team wrapped up their first tournament under new head coach Chris Malloy on Monday, where they finished in 14th place at the Turning Stone Intercollegiate.
The Bulls finished their opening tournament of the season in 14th place as a team after shooting rounds of 318, 320 and 327 respectively.
The Bulls were led by Devin Hernandez who finished the tournament with rounds of 77, 80 and 79 to finish the Turning Stone Intercollegiate in a tie for 44th place at 20-over.
Rick Kittelstad responded from an opening round of 82, by firing a 77 in Sunday's second round and a 79 in Monday's final 18, to put him in a tie for 51st in his first action of the year.
Purdue took the team championship, as they shot rounds of 307, 286 and 304 to finish the tournament atop the team leaderboard three strokes ahead of Missouriwho finished the tournament at 900 as a team. Oakland University's Jakob Ziegler turned in the best individual performance by shooting rounds of 73, 71 and 71.
The Bulls trailed a pair of BIG EAST teams in Connecticut, who finished in fourth place, and Seton Hall who finished the tournament in 11th place.
USF will return to action Sept. 25 when they travel to John Dallio Memorial in Lemont, Ill.
